The second annual THERAPY DOG CAMP will be held Friday-Saturday-Sunday

October 24-25-26, 2008

The world’s first THERAPY DOG CAMP, held October 19-21, 2007, in Valley Cottage, New York, attracted campers, dogs, auditors, and faculty from Oregon, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Mexico. Campers and auditors took advanced training workshops and learned about legal issues affecting pet therapy, therapy dog equipment and handling techniques, tips on visiting special populations, important canine care information, and how to improve dog/handler communication – all with the goal of making pet visits to schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities safer and more effective.

It was a hit!“An incredible experience!” “Terrific food!” “”Excellent presenters!” “Great workshop topics!” “My dog loved it!” “We both learned a lot!” “The small classes gave us personal instruction!” “Superb dinners!” “We made new friends!” “Count us in for next year!”

Space is limited for 2008 and campers are already signing up, so don't miss your chance to be a part of Therapy Dog Camp 2008! Click here for registration forms and information.

$1500 Donation Launches “Wishbone Fund” for R.E.A.D.

Usha Saxena and her family were devastated when Wishbone, their five-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever, died suddenly. In his memory, Saxena and her friend Beth Biegler gave a $1500 donation to HVHS Visiting Pets.Because Public Television has made the name Wishbone synonymous with children’s literacy, we will be using this generous donation to support our program’s Reading Education Assistance Dog®(R.E.A.D.®) activities.

The "Wishbone Fund" will honor the memory of Usha Saxena's Lab by financially supporting the training of our R.E.A.D. teams as well as providing books and reading encouragement give-aways such as bookmarks and reading puppets for the children who read to our dogs in schools and libraries.
